Retaining walls

Retaining walls are architectural elements tasked with supporting or retaining a vertical or near vertical face of earth or other material, whether natural or manmade. TeMa experience with reinforced soil retaining walls is embodied in high-performance products designed to stabilize and secure soil in construction, for projects that retain residential building’s unique features: tools catering to the latest sloping ground design trends.

FOR SHAPING

To give the structure a given slope and even out its face, the solution is to use shaped metal formwork set at the desired angle.

FOR STRENGTHENING

Soil — an element that has inherently good compressive strength — is teamed with a material like a reinforcement geosynthetic — which instead offers excellent tensile strength — to produce a reinforced soil wall.

FOR EROSION CONTROL

If left unchecked, the erosion of earth slopes can become deep over time, especially where there is rainwater runoff, which results in the top layer of soil being washed away. But natural fibre and synthetic matting can limit and solve this problem.

FOR RETAINING EARTH

To achieve certain functional and/or aesthetic qualities, an appropriate earth-retaining solution may be to use stone walls — which are usually fairly small in size — produced with the aid of gabions made from double-twisted wire mesh.
