Landfills and contaminated sites

Modern landfills are designed to isolate and contain waste material, as well as protecting the surrounding environment and ground water from any contamination.

The decomposition of municipal solid waste (MSW) under anaerobic conditions at landfill sites produces biogas that can be captured using collection systems.

TeMa manufactures and supplies a comprehensive range of products designed to be used in landfill applications.

The individual functions of the geosynthetic components of a landfill can be identified as follows:

  • Leak detection in the bottom liner layer

  • Interception and collection of gases

  • Drainage of the cell slopes and final capping layer

  • Drainage of the rain water over the capping

  • Reinforcement to prevent overstressing or soil slippages in the capping
